A Sporting Summer!

Our energetic staff have been very busy planning new ideas for the summer and, as I write, plans for our inaugural Padel Classic Tournament are being thrashed out. Padel has become such a well-loved and popular sport at Hurlingham. Who’d have guessed that in six years the number of members playing would grow from 25 to more than 1,200! Our members had a real treat, over two days in early May, as played at the highest levels, padel is a thrilling spectator sport.

We’ve opened a new Junior Games Room for those showery days. Our youngsters can now play table tennis, Air-Hoc or junior basketball – take a look if your child is too old for the soft play. This room is right next door in the old squash courts.

We recently acquired the popular Trackman golf simulator for both adults and children to enjoy a round of golf on different courses. Come try it out and get instant feedback and analysis. The simulator is also located in the old squash courts.

Our fitness classes have now been broadened to include Barra Burn, Yin Yoga and even Carafit (parents with babies up to 18 months old can train while ‘wearing’ a baby in a carrier!)

In other news, the Outdoor Pool works are progressing well. Timing was helped by discovering the tiles were in such bad shape that they more or less came off by themselves! Long hours with chisels not required! Now, if it would only stop raining… or perhaps we can use rainwater to refill the pool?

But we’ll be prepared for the sunny days with a big screen in the Dip for the Euros and Wimbledon – and our Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic will be bigger and better than ever.

Happy summer everyone!

SHARON RAWLINSON, CHAIR OF SPORT

A NOTE OF CAUTION

In 2023, we welcomed 12,500 guests for tennis, 6,100 into the Outdoor Pool and 5,900 for Padel – and bringing guests is an important part of what we offer members. But please remember that guests do need to be paid for. Of course, people do forget from time to time. But if members are found actively trying to avoid paying, by squeezing guests under the Outdoor Pool hedges, through the fire exits onto the indoor courts, pretending to go to the soft-play area but heading instead to the Indoor Pool, or being dishonest with staff, it will be taken very seriously. Please don’t jeopardise your membership.
