ART

During the summer months we had some wonderful workshops. In May, Madeline Morrow taught a group to paint glass as a subject in oils (see below). All attendees managed this which was wonderful – an amazing achievement, as glass is not an easy subject. In June, Louise Bougourd returned to the Club with a two-day workshop in Mixed Media. She inspired us to move away from the traditional photo-like painting and create our own perception of a landscape.

Ian Sedge was back in July with his ink and watercolour two-day course. Such a different style of painting, yet again and great fun. Roger Dellar finished off the summer in August with his unique and wonderful style of oil painting. He held a two-day Plein Air painting workshop in oils.

Lucinda Stephens will continue her alternate Tuesday mornings in the autumn. She has quite rightly taken the summer off. She gives us her time for free, which is so generous, and she is so much appreciated.

Social Art has been a great success every Thursday afternoon. This gives an opportunity for members to drop in and join fellow members who are working on their own creations. Everyone is welcome.

I have arranged a busy autumn of classes for all, and I hope there is something for everyone.

We are now fully booked for the autumn 12-week term and are only taking names for the waiting list!

Once the new East Wing opens, we plan to start a third class, and hope we can secure the space we need within the Club so that those on the waiting list can join in the fun! Please contact me to make sure you are on that waiting list. All are welcome whatever their skills and experience.

In the meantime, our stitchers have been busy. Come join us and you too will be able to create heirlooms!

Jan Robinson chose to stitch an initial for each of her seven grandchildren – all (the initials, not the children) have been framed and distributed to the young recipients. A needlework novice two years ago, Jan has carefully chosen to match the colours and styles of those initials with that of each child’s personality. Initials make lovely gifts at any age

Stitched by Jenny Gane, this piece took three years to complete and was recently given to the mother of this young man called Matthew, who passed away aged 19. Each symbol represents the various stages and accomplishments that Mathew achieved during his short life
