Watercolour Workshops
Have you ever wanted to paint watercolours? To answer that question, I held a ‘Beginner in Watercolour’ workshop in January, as a stepping stone to further watercolour workshops. Everyone who participated enjoyed it, learnt a lot and, above all, it achieved its goal.
Lucy Freud, daughter of Lucien Freud, held a fun and colourful four-week acrylic painting ‘In the style of’ workshop. It was great to have her teaching at Hurlingham. Lucinda Stephens was back again with her drawing class, and she addressed the key issues of basic techniques in creating original artwork. Julia Cassels also returned with her very popular two-day watercolour practical art workshops. Jacqueline Cockburn has also been back to talk about ‘Beyond the Muse’, featuring three female artists. As always, Jacqueline is very interesting and holds her audience with successful History of Art talks.
Lillies - Selena Puddick
A new evening session started this year, when I arranged for us to have monthly talks at the Club, based upon popular exhibitions being held in the big London Galleries. These talks have been very popular, informative and have kept us up to date with what is showing in London today. On Thursday 19 June Sarah Jeffray will give a talk about the Courtauld Gallery’s exhibition ‘Abstract Erotica’. Keep checking the website and Highlights to see what is coming next.
The annual Art Exhibition, lasting 10 days, the fourth largest event at the Club, opened with a Reception on Friday 9 May. There were 300, (the largest number ever) pieces of members’ artwork, including those of Young Hurlingham, on display. I do hope you all had an opportunity to view it.
